MOISSANITES

Moissanite was discovered in 1893 by the French chemist Henri
Moissan (after whom the mineral is named). Moissan discovered this
material in the Canyon Diablo meteor crater in Arizona while
analyzing meteoritic minerals. Initially, Moissan thought he had
discovered diamonds, but after further chemical analysis, it turned
out to be a completely different mineral...

Moissanites vs Diamonds

Similar hardness: It has a value of 9.25 on the Mohs scale, making
it a very hard mineral, although slightly less hard than diamond
(which has a hardness of 10).

Better refractive index: Moissanite has a higher refractive index
(2,65 – 2,69) than diamond (2,42), which means it sparkles more
than diamonds

Better glowing: Moissanite disperses light better (0,104) than
diamond (0,044), which gives it its characteristic "fire" and sparkle.

Valuable: Moissanites keep the one third diamond value.
